Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken, cut into pieces

  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons biryani masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro and mint for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
  3. In a pot, heat oil and sauté onions until golden brown.
  4. Add garlic and ginger, cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Add chicken pieces and cook until browned.
  6. Stir in tomatoes, yogurt, biryani masala, turmeric, and salt. Cook until chicken is tender.
  7. Add soaked rice and water to the pot. Bring to a boil.
  8. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until rice is cooked.
  9. Garnish with cilantro and mint before serving.
