Ingredients

- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 lb chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 3 cups water
- 2 teaspoons biryani masala
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro and mint for garnishing
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- In a pot, heat oil and sauté onions until golden brown.
- Add garlic and ginger, cook for 2 minutes.
- Add chicken pieces and cook until browned.
- Stir in tomatoes, yogurt, biryani masala, turmeric, and salt. Cook until chicken is tender.
- Add soaked rice and water to the pot. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until rice is cooked.
- Garnish with cilantro and mint before serving.
Notes
- Use long-grain basmati rice for the best texture.
- Adjust spices according to your taste.
- You can add boiled eggs or fried potatoes for extra flavor.
